We hope that you enjoyed our Open House as much as we did. If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry because we’ll be having more in the future! For those who were able to attend, thank you. You and your families are very important to us, and we want to make sure that SDFRA is aware of your needs and how we can better serve you.
Thank you for your feedback and great ideas on growing our organization and keeping our members happy. If we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you or it’s been far too long since we’ve seen you we’d love for you to stop by and enjoy a hot cup of joe with us. Thanks again for being part of a wonderful time spent with our fire family together.
We hope that you enjoyed our Open House as muc
At SDFRA, we pride ourselves on being there for our members when you need us most. In the case of Engineer, Dianne York-Karty, we’re so grateful that she thought of us in her time of need. In late April, Dianne approached President Truver to see if the organization could aid her in her search for a bone marrow donor for her stepson, Joshua Karty. Joshua had been diagnosed with aggressive chronic Myeloid Leukemia at the age of 31.
With full Board support, we quickly jumped on board with Be The Match, and were assisted by Local 145 and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department to help Dianne and her family in their search. In a few short weeks, we had organized a swabbing event at the Portuguese Hall with Be The Match. We were able to raise awareness about what it takes to be a donor for someone in need of a marrow transplant and also share stories of Joshua.
UPDATE: It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of Joshua’s passing. He left the world surrounded by his loving family on May 22, 2019. Joshua leaves behind a wife, Lynnea, three beautiful children, and an army of friends and family who will carry on his memory. Though we never had the pleasure of meeting Joshua, his loss is felt by many here in our San Diego fire family. If you would like to do something in Joshua’s honor, you can donate to the Karty family’s Go Fund Me account

It’s important to our organization that we continue to support Be The Match in their mission and in honor of Joshua Karty. You could be a match for a stranger and have the opportunity to touch and save a life. Simply visit the website, sign up, and take a swab test to be added to the registry. A kit will arrive and takes less than five minutes to complete. Visit BeTheMatch.org today to get your kit.

Hello Members!
We hope that you enjoyed this years Old Timer’s Luncheon as much as we did. A special thank you to the following organizations for their efforts in producing this memorable event: the Retired Fire and Police Association, IAFF Local 145, the Firehouse Museum, the Chief Officer’s Club, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, and the San Diego Fireman’s Relief Association !
As you can see in the photos below, there were a lot of great memories shared between the actives and retirees. Chief Wright even took a moment to honor a special retiree for making it to the luncheon, and it made everyone’s day more meaningful. Again, thank you to those who were able to attend and for making it as memorable as can be!. We hope to see you all next year!
The Old-Timers’ Luncheon was created to have a way to communicate with each other and share information. The luncheon brings back fond memories for all of our Retiree’s. We had a great turnout for our second annual luncheon with many active and retirees in attendance. We’d like to give a HUGE thank you to the Retired Fire & Police Association, Chief Officer’s Club, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, San Diego City Firefighters Local 145, Sports Club, and SDFRA for their dedication and planning of this event! We hope that you enjoy the photos that were captured at this year’s luncheon!
We’d love to hear from you. Send us a message with any questions you have and we’ll get back to you shortly!
