SURVIVING SPOUSES

When someone suffers a loss, the day to day can become very difficult - particularly when you lose your significant other. If your loved one was a First Responder, it can be even more difficult because all of your fire family hurts with you and for you, in addition to your civilian family.

FirefighterAid helps the San Diego Fireman's Relief Association to be there for the surviving spouses of their members. We send them love, have monthly brunches to catch up and see if they need any help, and make sure to make big holidays, like Valentines Day, are filled with love from their adopted family here.

We have traditionally helped the San Diego Fireman's Relief Association by sending a special Valentine's Day box to our surviving spouses and special friends. In 2019, we added some more regular love by catching up with our extended fire family of surviving spouses at monthly brunches. We love being able to share the love with those who could use a little extra, and we can't wait to keep on doing more good with these incredible people!

"Just to let you know how much I appreciate all you did to put together the special luncheon for the widows of San Diego Firefighters. It was such fun meeting new ladies and seeing others from Valentines Day get together. I eagerly look forward to our next get together, and if you need any help - I'm available. Much love to you and warmest thanks."

2020 BRUNCHES:

COMING SOON!!!

2019 BRUNCHES:

This year, we helped the San Diego Fireman's Relief Association to help treat the Surviving Spouses of Firefighters with a little more love, a lot more often. It broke our hearts to have the spouses who've supported our firefighters for so many years look us in the eyes and share that they'd felt forgotten. We created the Surviving Spouses Brunch to reconnect with and share some laughs once a month with some wonderful people.

We kicked them off at the end of 2019, and we couldn't be happier to share the time and conversation with our loving family. A big thank you to Evelyn Garza for assisting our team and planning the inaugural brunch in November 2019 and for her continued support to helping us build this group up. Our inaugural year started off wonderfully, and we can't wait for more to come. You're loved, you're family, and you will always be part of our family!

"Thank you all so very much for your very kind consideration of my mother, Lola Jones. She is now 92 and was throughly delighted with her Valentines Day box of heart treats. It made her feel that she is a part of the community she and my father enjoyed for years. She felt cared for in a special way. Whose ever idea it was to think of her and I assume others as well, should receive a well deserved pat on the back! Thank you for remembering her "

- Dana McCurine, Lola's daughter and of course, Lola Jones

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart on Valentine's Day for making me so very special. So wonderful to meet the other widows. Thank you for all you did to make our day unforgettable "

"Dear FirefighterAid, Thank you so much for the surprise Valentine box. I was really feeling fat, ugly, and unloved, but after woofing down the candy, I now feel loved (but still fat and ugly). Thanks again for thinking of me."

2020 VALENTINES:

COMING SOON!!!

2019 VALENTINES:

On February 14, we had the great fortune of building friendship succulents with some of our lovely ladies. Whether they lost their firefighter husband or their firefighter father, we were there for them on the day of love. We enjoyed sweets, snacks, drinks, and stories of some of our favorite retired SDFD pals.

Our Valentine Project is one of our most favorites every year! Every year we do it bigger and better! We hand-crafted 80 valentines for our fire widows, biggest supporters, sponsors, and donors. We wanted them to know just how much we truly love them. After all, that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about...LOVE! We also invited 50 Widows to our office for some Valentine’s Day treats and to spend a few hours with our Staff and Board building succulents. We love to let them know that they're not alone and that they are so very, very loved. The smiles on their faces (and ours) says it all! xo

Special thank you to Resplendent Designs for the succulent supplies and tutorial!

2018 VALENTINES:

Another year has passed, and our love has grown. Thank you to VIP Paints - San Diego for helping us give these woman a Valentine's Day worthy of their smiles! Everyone had a great time making candles and mandels while snacking on treats and telling stories. Special THANK YOU to Station 45 for dropping by and making these ladies smile from ear to ear! This was was all about L-O-V-E! <3

2017 VALENTINES:

Our 2016 Valentine Project was so well received by our widows that, this year, we decided to do it even bigger and better! We hand-crafted 50 valentines for our fire widows, biggest supporters, sponsors, and donors. We wanted them to know just how much we truly love them. After all, that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about...LOVE! We also invited 28 Widows to our office for some Valentine’s Day treats and to spend a few hours with our Staff and Board so we could let them know that they are not alone and that they are so very, very loved. Some widows still need time to heal and weren’t ready to attend, but the few who could come had a wonderful time and said they would be back next year! We think their thank you cards said it best:

"Thank you for thinking about me and sending the lovely surprise Valentine's Day gift."

- Pamela Dellemann

"Your Valentine gift was fun and so sweet."

- Claribel

2016 VALENTINES:

This past Valentine’s Day we wanted to show some very special women in our San Diego fire family that they are so loved. For many of these women this was just another Valentine’s Day without their special someone, their Firefighter husband, but for five of them it was their first Valentine’s Day alone. So we pulled out our glue guns, markers, stickers and we hand-crafted 16 Valentine’s Day boxes filled with love, admiration, and little bit of chocolate! Then we spent two days hand delivering most of them to their doorstep. Each widow was extremely grateful, some were moved to tears and some were even speechless. These ladies proved to be the greatest bunch of Valentines anyone could ask for. The response from all those served with Valentines was heartfelt and meaningful and most were moved to tears and just happy to be remembered on such a hard day.
