"I began the mustache fundraiser when I found out that one of my academy mates was diagnosed with cancer. Although he himself did not need financial assistance, I thought it would be a great idea to have an event to show our support. It has been successful for five years, and it has been amazing to see the support grow among my fellow firefighters and the impact that it has had on those being treated for all types of occupational cancers. We have to do something to help prevent firefighters' cancers, and I hope by keeping the mustache events going strong we can help support CAPP and together accomplish this goal."
2019 MUSTACHE BASH:
This year’s SDFD Mustache Bash (new name, same great event) was a gigantic success! Event organizer, Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Brambir, has a huge heart and is dedicated to FirefighterAid’s Cancer Awareness and Prevention Program (CAPP). Every year, during the months of October and November, Sean dedicates his time to help support the fight against firefighter occupational cancer. He reaches out to local business and organizations to get donations, awesome raffle prizes, and works hard to create long lasting community partnerships.
The Firehouse Pacific Beach hosted this year’s event and had creative drink specials sponsored by Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire. Falck offered our event goers with a special donation matching a goal of up to $1,000 which we hit that evening! The San Diego Firefighters Credit Union donated $500 and their own Monica Lewis won the best female mustache award, Sister Stache. There were over 200 in attendance and it was the most attended mustache event we’ve ever had.
This year's fundraising goal was set at $10,000, and thanks to a team effort, we were able to raise just over $13,000! Firefighters and community supporters coming together is the most wonderful way to support each other and unite for such a great cause.
A special thank you to Captain Rich Marcello for all his hard work in co-planning the event and managing this year’s merchandise design and sales. To the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department for relaxing the grooming standards for all our hairy participants. To the amazing crew at Firehouse Pacific Beach, and to all the incredible mustaches both real and fake that made an appearance at the bash.
If you’re looking to help make an impact and would like to be a part of our 6th Mustache Bash in 2020, there are many ways that you can help! Please feel free to reach out to Sean Brambir at with any questions of how to get involved, the mustache contest rules, and why FirefighterAid's CAPP.
Another year, another super successful Movember! We changed up the location and went to the San Diego Fire House Museum with some live music happing in the background to really make it a party. Our fearless event organizer, Sean Brambir, helped to make this year's fundraiser a huge success! This year the event fundraised for FirefighterAid's Cancer Awareness and Prevention Program (CAPP) again and nearly DOUBLED their donation - over $5,800!
Thank you to all of the firefighter family and friends who came out to support the event, grew a super classy stache, and championed for FirefighterAid's CAPP. We are so grateful for your support and for helping your fellow brothers and sisters. An extra special thank you to groups that helped to produce and host such an awesome Movember bash: San Diego Fire House Museum, San Diego Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, Last Caress, CREMO, and all of the raffle donors. See you all next year!
Our Movember event was a success! Even though we had to postpone the event date to February because of Southern California fires and so many of our San Diego firefighters being mando'd, all of our firefighter friends and family came out strong to support FirefighterAid's Cancer Awareness and Prevention Program (CAPP)! We were still able to celebrate and award the best mustaches. All of your donations and fundraising helped to raise over $3,500 to help educate firefighters on cancer prevention methods in fire stations around San Diego County!
HUGE THANK YOU to Firefighter Sean Brambir for all your hard work and dedication to this event, and for wanting to kick Firefighter job-related cancer OUT of our stations! Thank you McFadden's San Diego for hosting the event, THANK YOU to all the amazing donors, sponsors, supporters, and fighters who came out to support this amazing cause. Thank you Firefighters with real mustaches and fake ones for you support, we LOVE you all! Thank you Skelton Crew for jamming the lid right on the place for us! Thank you Billy Economou, Best Studios SD for capturing the amazing evening. And HUGE thank you to the San Diego Emerald Society Pipes and Drums for pumping up the crowd with your amazing sound and hearts! Until next year... keep it stachey San Diego!
